More about Sylvia…
I have always been back and forth between Richmond and Montreal, Canada where I was born. I first became a community doula in Montreal and in this role realized how important it was to be uplifted and supported in birth, and how badly marginalized communities can be treated in the medical industrial complex.
I moved back to Richmond to be with friends and family and my now husband. In the next years I became an RN and began working on the mother/baby unit. I continued to be a full spectrum community doula and cofounded the Richmond Doula Project. I became a birth assistant with Adrianna and Linsey here at River City! I also gave birth to my two sons at home. I gave birth feeling fully empowered, listened to and loved. I learned so much not only about birth and midwifery in my own journey to motherhood, but also about fertility, postpartum, and parenting (2 under 2, ah!).
Finally, I pursued my masters in midwifery at Frontier Nursing University and I am now a Certified Nurse Midwife. I am so thankful to land here at River City Midwifery, upholding this evidence based, trauma informed care model, providing out -of-hospital birth options for the Richmond community. I am proud to work in close partnership with Adrianna and Linsey in their immense out-of-hospital experience, and bring my own expertise as an advanced practice registered nurse. I am here to serve you across the reproductive life span, menarche through menopause and all that arises in between. I intend to provide empowering and non-judgmental reproductive healthcare to those who seek it. Your journey in your body is deeply important to me. I so look forward to meeting you.
